Biography

Taco Kuijpers was trained in the Netherlands at the University of Amsterdam, which resulted in a cum laude doctorate, obtained in 1992 with a thesis entitled “Neutrophil adhesion and diapedesis: movements in the dark toward the end of the tunnel”.  Prof. Kuijpers is head of the department of Pediatric Hematology, Immunology and Infectious disease at the Emma Children’s Hospital of the Academic Medical Center (AMC) in Amsterdam. His main interests are innate immunity (among which are Chronic Granulomatous Disease and other phagocyte disorders) and adaptive defects causing primary immunodeficiencies otherwise (among which are cellular defects causing chronic infectious disease). He has long-standing research lines in IgG, complement and their receptors, particularly in infectious disease, and (auto)inflammation/immunity such as in periodic fever, vasculitis and rheumatic disease.
